The medical staff at SMMC Walk-In Care provides non-emergency care, including x-rays and lab work. To help you choose the best option for your situation, below is a list of health issues which are treated at SMMC Walk-In Care as well as a list of life-threatening emergencies where Emergency Department care is required.

• Abscess
• Allergic reactions, minor (e.g., no difficulty breathing)
• Breast tenderness
• Cellulitis
• Coughs / congestion
• Cold / sore throat
• Dental pain
• Eye infection or ear aches
• Facial irritation
• Fever or flu-like symptoms
• Mild asthma
• Minor burns
• Minor head injury (without loss of consciousness)
• Minor lacerations (cuts)
• Muscular back pain
• Puncture wounds
• Rash or other skin irritations

• Abdominal pain
• Altered mental state (confusion)
• Animal bites
• Broken bones
• Burns
• Chest pain / heart attack (see symptoms below)
• Contamination
• Coughing or vomiting blood
• Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
• Electric shock
• Nose bleeds
• Poison ingestion or overdose
• Seizure
• Serious or severe injuries or trauma 
• Severe vomiting or suspected food poisoning
• Stroke (see symptoms below)
• Suicidal thoughts or feelings
• Weakness, dizziness, fainting, unconsciousness
• When Walk-In Care is closed

In the case of life-threatening emergencies, please call 911 for your nearest local Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

Life-threatening conditions include:

Heart Attack - Discomfort in the chest or other areas of the upper body, shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, or lightheadedness.

Stroke - Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arms, or legs, especially on one side of the body, sudden confusion or trouble speaking or understanding, trouble seeing in one or both eyes, sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination, sudden severe headache with no known cause.

Sudden Loss of Responsiveness
