The Health Sciences Library provides services to help SMMC staff, patients and their families achieve a continuum of care. Quality information is empowering and can lead to better care and a better quality of life for patients and their families.
Services include reference, literature searches, interlibrary loan, photocopying, faxing for urgent patient care requests, and database instruction.
The Library’s resources include:
- medical reference materials such as dictionaries, encyclopedias and manuals.
- a circulating collection for health care professionals and consumers.
- a journal collection for physicians, nurses and allied health professionals.
- health newsletters, pamphlets and videos for patients and their families.
- Internet access to health resources such as databases from the National Library of Medicine
SMMC affiliated staff are entitled to full library privileges. Patients, their families and the public are welcome to use the Library during staffed hours.
Location and Hours
The Library is located on the second floor of Southern Maine Medical Center, across from the cafeteria. The Library is staffed Monday - Friday, 8am - 1pm.
