Anne Noyes, Old Orchard Beach
Issue: Misdiagnosed with breast cancer years ago
Today: Confident in her care
While living in Hawaii years ago, Anne Noyes was misdiagnosed with breast cancer.
“I had gone in for my mammogram,” she recalls. “Two days later the phone was ringing. It was the medical center telling me that I had breast cancer. I almost fainted dead away.
They barely said ‘Hello!’ “
The experience in Hawaii made Anne concerned about how other women in similar situations are treated. Reassuring care is very important to her. Now that she has moved back to Maine, she’s found it at SMMC.
“Last October when I had my mammogram, I went to Southern Maine Medical Center and I was absolutely amazed; they are the friendliest, nicest, kindest people. SMMC has been a godsend. There’s no reason why anyone should be afraid to get a mammogram, especially at SMMC. They’re great.”
