HomeCare Alliance of Maine Names Phyllis Russell Board Member of the Year
YORK COUNTY, MAINE – Phyllis Russell of Kennebunk was named Board Member of the Year by the HomeCare Alliance of Maine at their Annual Meeting in Freeport on Thursday, September 21st. The HomeCare Alliance of Maine is the state association representing home health agencies throughout Maine. Ms. Russell, who is a retired healthcare executive and consultant, has been actively serving on the SMMC Visiting Nurses board for more than five years and recently began serving her 3rd term as Board Chair. She was nominated for her dedication, leadership and expertise, especially in the field of quality improvement and human resource development.

The Board Member of the Year Award is presented to an agency board member to recognize committed and dedicated service. The qualifications include having served as a member of the Board for at least two years and demonstrated commitment through serving on one or more Board committees and/or as an officer of the Board. The award also recognizes the individual's participation in community activities on behalf of home care.

“I am humbled to be recognized in such a way,” stated Phyllis Russell, Board Chair of SMMC Visiting Nurses. “Over the years I have encountered many talented board members who volunteer their time selflessly and I thank each board member for their commitment to making home health stronger throughout the state. I accept this award as a representative which should honor all of your work.”

“We appreciate that Phyllis is upbeat, outgoing and focused - keeping the Board on task at all meetings and ending on time,” stated Elaine Brady, Executive Director of SMMC Visiting Nurses. “Phyllis leads by example; she wrote a personal letter for our last annual appeal and challenged each board member by pledging a 10 percent match on their donation in order to ensure 100% board participation in the campaign.”

In addition to serving as Board Chair, Phyllis also chairs SMMC Visiting Nurses’ Performance Improvement Committee, chairs the joint Southern Maine Medical Center/SMMC Visiting Nurses’ Human Resources Committee, and actively participates on the agency Budget and Finance Committee. She is also an agency representative to the SMMC Board of Directors.

“Phyllis possesses the kinds of qualities desired in all Board members---and we're so proud that she has chosen to work with our agency,” adds Elaine.
