SMMC's Center for Breast Care Earns Breast Imaging Center of Excellence Designation

Southern Maine Medical Center’s (SMMC) Center for Breast Care, which opened in October 2011, has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Prior to receiving the excellence designation, centers must undergo an evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. This accreditation is the national gold standard for excellence, given only to facilities with proven best practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.
