Southern Maine Medical Center’s (SMMC) Center for Breast Care, which opened in October 2011, has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Prior to receiving the excellence designation, centers must undergo an evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. This accreditation is the national gold standard for excellence, given only to facilities with proven best practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.
"SMMC is dedicated to providing our patients with the highest quality of care," emphasized President and CEO Ed McGeachey. "We are honored to be accredited a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence less than one year after opening our Center for Breast Care. Our exceptional team of breast care experts uses the latest in diagnostic technology and a patient-centered approach to ensure our patients receive excellent care. Always."
Based on input from breast cancer survivors, the Center for Breast Care was designed to make certain that patients receive compassionate, coordinated care from diagnosis through recovery. Visit smmc.org/centerforbreastcare for more information.
