SMMC PrimeCare’s New Portal – mySMMCchart – Popular with Patients

Thousands sign up to view lab results, request refills and appointments online

More than 4,400 patients have signed up for mySMMCchart since Southern Maine Medical Center (SMMC) PrimeCare launched the new online service in April. mySMMCchart is a secure and confidential web-based patient portal that allows SMMC PrimeCare patients to:

• View their personal, physician office health record;

• Request non-urgent appointments;

• Request medication refills;

• Request a referral;

• Submit questions to their health care provider; and

• Update personal information such as their address, health insurer or preferred pharmacy.

The service is available to adult patients 18 years of age and older.

“The response to SMMC PrimeCare’s new patient portal, mySMMCchart, has been very enthusiastic,” said Vicki Lyons, vice president of physician practice operations. “Enabling patients to play a more active role in managing their care through a secure website dovetails nicely with SMMC PrimeCare’s patient-centered approach.  Viewing lab results and requesting medication refills online have been particularly popular.”

“I immediately signed up to use the portal,” added Jon Krueger, a member of SMMC’s Patient Advisory Council.  “Enrolling is very easy and I really like the convenience of being able to request appointments, referrals and medication refills through mySMMCchart any time I want to, day or night.”

To enroll, patients complete a simple form in their doctor’s office.  A temporary user name and password is emailed the next business day so patients can log on and set up their personal ID and password.  Patients can log into mySMMCchart from a link on the home page of SMMC’s new website, smmc.org, which was launched in May. The new site features fresh colorful graphics, more intuitive site navigation and enhanced search features. SMMC.org was designed to accommodate different web browsing preferences by linking to information through text, photos, videos and graphics. So, whether visitors need to find a physician, request a prescription refill through mySMMCchart, or want to learn more about the services we offer, they can find what they’re looking for quickly and easily!
