Carolyn Walker, president of the Southern Maine Medical Center (SMMC) Auxiliary, announced today at the Annual Meeting of the Auxiliary that Karen Chasse and Thomas Roy were chosen to receive $1,000 scholarships from the SMMC Auxiliary Employee Recognition Scholarship program, now in its second year.
Employed at SMMC for twenty years, Ms. Chasse is Community Relations at Outreach Manager. She is enrolled in the Bachelors of Arts, Liberal Studies with a minor in Business, at the University of Maine in Augusta (UMA). She currently holds an Associates Degree in General Sciences from UMA and is the President-Elect of the Biddeford-Saco Rotary Club.
Mr. Roy is enrolled in the Associates Degree, Business Administration at the University of Maine in Augusta (UMA). Mr. Roy is the Nutrition Services Manager and has been employed at SMMC for 7 years.
In announcing the scholarship, Ms. Walker said, “This scholarship was established to recognize the dedicated service of employees of SMMC and to help them acquire additional education needed to excel even more at their jobs.” She also expressed her gratitude to Auxilians Joan Gordon, Joan Dawson, and Jan Frasier who coordinated the application process and interviewed the potential recipients. Ms. Walker concluded, “We were pleased to award two scholarships this year and hope we can continue to grow this program.”
In accepting their scholarships, Ms. Chasse and Mr. Roy were deeply grateful that the Auxiliary has given them financial assistance to continue their education. They were both thankful for the Auxiliary’s confidence in them and are excited to return to college.
