Fight Breast Cancer at the 2nd Annual SMMC “Be Healthy” 5K Run/Walk

On October 6, in recognition of breast cancer awareness month, Southern Maine Medical Center (SMMC) is hosting its 2nd Annual “Be Healthy” 5K Run/Walk to benefit the SMMC Center for Breast Care. According to Josh Fearon, frequent runner and member of the 5K committee, “I’m really looking forward to the SMMC 5K.  The course on the Eastern Trail behind the medical center is excellent and the cause – helping SMMC’s breast cancer program -- can’t be beat.” 

Jessica Jarvis, recently treated at the SMMC Center for Breast Care, “can’t imagine going anywhere else” and reports that she is walking because it’s a “wonderful way to give back to everyone at the hospital who supported me during my fight against breast cancer.”

The 5K race begins at 9 am; followed by the walk at 10:30 am.  Registrations are being accepted online at active.com.  Preregistration is $20 for runners and $15 for walkers.
