AVX Kyocera Foundation Awards SMMC Grant of $10,000

For the second consecutive year, the AVX Kyocera Foundation has provided SMMC with a grant for equipment purchase. This year, the Foundation's $10,000 grant will provide a state-of-the art defibrillator for the Emergency Department. The Foundation awards grants in support of projects that have an impact on the local communities where its corporate sponsor, AVX Corporation has operating facilities. Bob Fairey, the plant manager of Biddeford-based AVX/Tantalum, presented the award; noting that "AVX/Tantalum employees depend on SMMC for outstanding medical care and the Foundation's grant is intended to support your critical work."

In accepting the gift, Ed McGeachey, SMMC President and CEO commented, "We deeply appreciate the Foundation's continued generosity. This grant to purchase a hospital-grade defibrillator will undoubtedly help our caregivers save many lives."

Gina Quinn-Skillings, Medical Director of the SMMC Emergency Department, added, "On behalf of the staff of the Emergency Department, I am delighted to express our gratitude to the Foundation. Your grant helps purchase a truly top-of-the line defibrillator that will give us the critical edge needed when seconds make the difference in the ability to revive a victim of cardiac arrest."
