At Southern Maine Medical Center, we understand that children require and deserve special attention when they are ill or injured. The pediatric staff are committed to providing high-quality health care in a child-friendly setting by focusing on each child's unique needs. In support of our family-centered care approach, parents/guardians are involved in all aspects of a child's care. Parents are considered the members of their child's health care team who know their child best and we support and encourage parents to act as advocates for his/her child’s health and well-being. A parent or guardian is encouraged to stay overnight with the child during their inpatient stay. In addition to the medical and nursing staff, the pediatric team includes dieticians, licensed clinical social workers, respiratory therapists and lactation consultants.
Close collaboration with pediatricians in the surrounding communities allows us to provide quality care for their patients right in their own backyard. Southern Maine Medical Center is committed to making your child as comfortable as possible while she/he is at the hospital. Parents/guardians are encouraged to speak with their health care team if they would like to discuss any aspect of their child's hospital visit.
