All Cancer Survivors
Second Wednesday of each month, 6 to 7:30pm
SMMC Ambulatory Behavioral Health Center, 291 Alfred Street, Biddeford
A wonderful way to connect with people going through similar situations brought on by living with cancer. Every other month we will be hosting a speaker who will lead our discussion on different topics of interest. Pre-registration recommended, call 283-7319/7320.

Man-to-Man Prostate Cancer Support Group
Phone support for men dealing with prostate cancer. For more details call 283-7319/7320.
Better Breathers Club (Pulmonary Rehab)
First Thursday of each month, 1pm
SMMC, One Medical Center Drive, Biddeford

Open to all interested in learning more about pulmonary disease and improving their quality of life. Small group sessions allow participants to share experiences, provide education and learn in a comfortable and caring setting. For more information, call Sue Elie, RN at 283-7798.
Breastfeeding Support Group
Fridays, 10-11am, SMMC Birthing Suite
In this setting, breastfeeding mothers explore positive options about breastfeeding, resulting in a pleasant and satisfying breastfeeding experience. A breastfeeding support group is a wonderful way to exchange information and experiences.
Diabetes (Held by SMMC Visiting Nurses)  
Our monthly support groups are held at two locations and are open to all those who live with diabetes as well as family, friends and caregivers. These free sessions are to offer you support as well as to keep you updated on the latest treatment available in the management of diabetes.

Second Monday of each month, 6:30 - 8pm
Location: Richard J. Martin Community Center, Biddeford.

Fourth Monday of each month, 7 - 8:30pm
Location: SMMC Visiting Nurses, 72 Main Street, Kennebunk

During 2008, the following topics will be held at both locations:

  • March: “It's Your Support Group!”
    What does the 'Diabetes Support Group' mean to you? What would you like? How can we help? Educators will facilitate the evening. Come with interests & ideas, questions & concerns. March 10th, Richard Martin Community Center & March 24th, SMMC Visiting Nurses.


  • April: “Know Your Numbers”
    Diabetes is a significant growing health concern in the United States. 40% of diabetics are not in good control. Come and have a healthy snack and learn what you need to do to take control of your diabetes. Session is sponsored by Bayer Health Care. Free blood sugar meters will be given away to those who desire a new meter. April 14th, Richard Martin Community Center & April 28th, SMMC Visiting Nurses.


  • May: “Take Some Healthy Steps”
    Come learn the steps to better health, which can help you to prevent the complications of diabetes. Free pedometers will be given out to help motivate you to take more steps. Take note of schedule changes this month!!! Monday at SMMC Visiting Nurses in Kennebunk date has changed due to holiday. May 14th, Richard Martin Community Center & May 19th, SMMC Visiting Nurses.


  • June: “What you need to know about insulin resistance syndrome (IRS)”
    Insulin resistance syndrome (IRS) is a condition in which your body becomes less sensitive to insulins action and sugar builds up in your blood stream. One in three adults have this and do not know it. Come learn what it is and what to do about it. June 9th, Richard Martin Community Center & June 23, SMMC Visiting Nurses.

    Fibromyalgia
    Second and Fourth Wednesdays of each month
    6:30 to 8:30pm at Saco

    Gastric Bypass  
    Second Wednesday of each month, 7 to 8pm
    Fourth Wednesday of each month, 6:30 to 7:30pm
    Location: SMMC, One Medical Center Drive, Biddeford
    Information will be presented about nutrition, resources, and other topics to help with the lifestyle and emotional adjustments you may face. Talk with others who have faced similar challenges. For more information, call 283-7987.
    Heart Transplant
    Third Wednesday of each month, 6 to 8pm, SMMC
    Group members discuss the transplant process and how that impacts day to day life. Newer members receive information and encouragement from veterans who received hearts as many as twelve years ago. A registered nurse is the group facilitator. For more information call 283-7797.

    Parkinson's Disease
    Second Sunday of each month, 2 to 4pm at SMMC
    A place to share information and support for people with Parkinson’s disease, their families, caregivers and those in related health fields. For more information, call 985-2431.
    Perinatal Depression Support Group
    For pregnant and postpartum women
     
    Every Wednesday - 1030am at SMMC Birthing Suite
    Free. The purpose of this group is to offer support and healing to women suffering from depression and related mood disorders during pregnancy and the first year after giving birth. We offer a safe and compassionate environment in which women can discuss their experiences and the challenges of motherhood. Facilitated by our Birthing Suite Nurses and an SMMC Social Worker, information and community resources will be provided. Pre-registration is preferred; Babies are always welcome.     Most of our programs take place at SMMC (One Medical Center Drive, Biddeford), SMMC Visiting Nurses (Park Square: 72 Main Street, Kennebunk), or at one of SMMC's Diagnostic and Therapy Centers in Saco (13 Industrial Park Road, Saco), and Kennebunk (4 Shape Drive, Kennebunk). Locations are noted as either Biddeford-SMMC, SMMC Visiting Nurses, Saco, or Kennebunk. Other venues are clearly specified. Unless otherwise noted, there is no charge.
