Maine Child Passenger Safety Seat Program
SMMC is a Maine Voucher Site, providing income-eligible families with free car seats, in addition to instruction on proper car seat use and installation. Parenting Class ~ Infant Safety & CPR

Apr 24 (full); May 8; Jun 26; Jul 9; Aug 21; 6 to 9pm at SMMC
This class provides a non-certificate course by the American Heart Association to family and friends, as well as basic home safety for your baby as they grow. Books are available ahead of time with full payment of course fee. $25/couple; $15/person. Pre-registration required, please call 283-7350.

Parenting Class~ Car Seat Class

This class is designed to help parents/grandparents understand the importance of proper car seat use. Please bring your car owners manual/car seat manual and car seat (if you have already purchased a car seat). Pre-registration required, please call 283-7350.

Prenatal Class ~ Breastfeeding

May 27; June 24; July 22; Aug 26; Sept 23; 6 to 8:30pm at SMMC
Free. This class, presented by SMMC’s Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Janice Lessard, RN, IBCLC, will cover the benefits of breast feeding, infant sleep status/feeding cues, returning to work or school, breast pumps and support available within your community. It will also dispel common myths and concerns about breast feeding. Back-to-Work Breast Feeding classes are also available for mothers who plan to breast feed and work. Prenatal Class ~ Childbirth Preparation Series (aka Lamaze)*

Four Week Series: Apr 23, 30, May 7, 14; Sept 3-10-17-24 One Day Class: Apr 20; May (full); Jun 28; Jul 13; Aug 23; Sept 21
Classes held at SMMC; $75. This class is designed to prepare you and your partner for childbirth and instructs you on relaxation techniques to facilitate delivery. You will cover anatomy and physiology of birth, pain control, positions, breathing and enjoy a tour of the birthing suite. Works great for both first-timers and experienced parents. Newly expectant parents can choose a one day intensive (8 hour) class or a 4 week series totaling 8 hours. Expectant mothers should be in their last trimester. * Please bring a mat, sleeping bag or blanket, 2 pillows and a watch with a second hand. Pre-registration required, please call 283-7350.

Prenatal Class ~ Prenatal Exercise

Dates and Times TBA
Prenatal Exercise Class for expectant mothers, taught by a Nurse Specialist from the SMMC Birthing Suite. The class incorporates stretching, breathing and a gentle cardio workout, to minimize the pain and discomfort of pregnancy and help keep you fit and strong. Cost: $5. Pre-registration required; Class size is limited - please call 283-7350.

Prenatal Class ~ Sibling Education*

May 20; Jul 15; Sept 23; 6 to 7pm at SMMC
Free. Introduce your children, age three to six years old, to their new role as a sibling to a newborn. They’ll visit our birthing suite, watch a video, and talk about becoming big brothers or sisters. *Please bring a stuffed animal or doll for holding and diapering. Pre-registration required, please call 283-7350.
Coming in 2008: Class for 6-12 year olds, dates TBA.

or at one of SMMC's Diagnostic and Therapy Centers in Saco (13 Industrial Park Road, Saco), and Kennebunk (4 Shape Drive, Kennebunk). Locations are noted as either Biddeford-SMMC, SMMC Visiting Nurses, Saco, or Kennebunk. Other venues are clearly specified. Unless otherwise noted, there is
